This past weekend, my husband and I headed down to Saloon Door Brewing to hand out with some friends on a Sunday afternoon. This brewery is farther away than we typically travel for just an afternoon, but one we had not been to and wanted to try.
We arrived right as they were opening at noon, so the place was mostly empty when we entered. There was actually a small group set up in the corner that looked like they were playing Dungeons and Dragons. There were a variety of different board games on a shelf available for guests to play while they drank as well.
I started out strong with their Ridiculous AF stout. This was a peanut butter stout that boasted an ABV of 12%. I could smell the sweet aroma of peanut as I brought it to my lips and the flavor was extremely rich and satisfying.
It looked as if most of their most popular beer on tap were their stouts and porters, but they did have a handful of lighter brews as well. My next beer was their Catty Corner, which was a delightful vanilla cream ale. I greatly enjoyed it, but it was definitely a vast change of pace from my previous beer.
We played games and hung out. The brewery had movies playing on a large screen and sports on another TV. It was the perfect lazy afternoon with a casual atmosphere and plenty of seating so that even once it started to fill out it was not especially crowded.
My final beer was the Tasty AF Nitro Stout. This is the peanut butter stout that the Ridiculous AF was derived from. It was just as delicious, but with a thicker, foamy head and a softer bite, since it’s half the ABV.
Cheers!
