`We arrived at Dublin airport around 6 am, March 15, and apparently had a bus to catch at 10 am to Derry. My parents and I were able to meet up with my sister and brother-in-law at Kilkenny Design restaurant for a quick breakfast before trekking around Trinity College to reach the bus station. The breakfast was amazing and presented some new foods not typical for an American breakfast.
The bus ride was a nice, long 4 hour drive with a quick stop about halfway. When we arrived, we hauled all of our luggage to a cute little B&B called Abbey B&B. Once settled in, we regrouped and headed out into the town.
We were able to catch one of the final bus tours around the city that informed us of the history of Derry and took us to most the main points of interest. After it was over, we walked along part of the wall surrounding Derry before heading to dinner.
We found Fitzroy’s Bistro, a place the owner of the B&B had suggested to us, and grabbed a drink at the bar before being seated. This being the first drink I would have since being in Ireland, I of course ordered a Guinness and was not disappointed. The bartender was even able to drawn a shamrock into the foam on top. The food was amazing also. I had a 6 oz. cashel cheese rump burger with a side or sour cream and chili fries. I was too hungry to capture a picture of the burger, but the picture of the fries that I posted gained some attention from a local restaurant in Houston on Twitter.
After dinner there was little to do but head back to the B&B and rest up from the long day. The next day, we would be catching a train to Coleraine and diving all over the northern countryside.
Cheers!
