Unicorn – Magical Dessert Bar Houston

On Saturday, March 9, 2019, Unicorn -Magical Dessert Bar debuted in Houston, TX. This is a unicorn-themed dessert bar that features an assortment of cakes, shakes, and other sweet treats. I had already traveled across the globe to visit a unicorn dessert bar (see Unicorn Cafe in 6 Days in Bangkok, Thailand), so why not check out one that was opening in my backyard?

There was already a huge line by the time we got there. People of all ages were wearing unicorn headbands, tutus, and sparkly attire while we waited to reach the entrance and order our treats. The crowd was lively, but the line was moving very slow. It took us a total of 4 hours to reach the inside. So, was the wait worth it?

Upon entering, we were greeted by a large geometric unicorn flying in above the register. The walls were, obviously, pink and there were adorable, little chandeliers hung above the bakery cases displaying the different treats you could order. Everywhere you looked, there was something pastel or shimmery, from unicorns hanging from the ceiling to sparkly bows and murals. There were even neon pink lights down the hallway that led to the restrooms.

The menu had everything from donuts to ice cream, but the most popular item appeared to be the Monster Milkshakes, which featured a slice of cake as a garnish. I ordered the Unicorn Lemonade, which was a lavender lemonade served in a flashing lightbulb-shaped vessel and was topped with cotton candy “clouds”. It was the perfect combination of refreshing and sweet.

All of the desserts were expertly crafted, with beautiful attention to detail to lend to their whimsical charm. There was a tiered cake that was decorated to look like a castle on display that really showcased the skills of the bakery. On top of that, everything was delicious!

So, yes, the line was long, the day was hot, and then venue was small, but it was a wonderful adventure in the city that I call home and uplifting to see the community come together and celebrate in a little fantastical fun.

Below is a video that I actually make a brief appearance in about the opening.

Cheers!
